 Abstract:
WC-17Co coatings were deposited on stainless steel and aluminum substrates with tension and compression residual stress states, respectively. Residual stresses were evaluated by the in- situ coating property evaluation sensor which is based on curvature measurement monitoring of the sprayed sample during the deposition stage. Scratch tests were carried out as done on the coatings to study the effect of residual stress on cracking behavior at increasing load conditions. Different failure mechanisms were addressed by studying top surface and cross section of the scratch track prepared by focused ion beam technique.
