Abstract: |
The majority of materials used in applications that require high wear resistance also suffer due to the corrosive action of the environment in which it operates. The damage caused by the combination of both processes, directly or indirectly, on the materials that machine elements are produced leads to huge economic losses in industry. Hard coatings are widely used as engineering solution to increase the life of components operating in conditions of wear or wear combined with corrosion. The most versatile techniques for applying such coatings are welding and thermal spraying. Depending on the requirements and environmental service, application technology and a set of specific materials and appropriate conditions can be selected. This work evaluates and compares the properties of coatings obtained by thermal spraying and welding using selected feeding materials. The mechanical and metallurgical characteristics and performance in corrosion and wear tests are discussed and compared.
