 Abstract:
Within the scope of this project, brazing powders covered with a thin thermoplastic coating have been developed and investigated. The coating fulfils two tasks: On the one hand, the thermoplastic can be re-melted at moderate temperatures, in order to realize bonds between contacting braze metal particles and to metal surfaces, forming adherent braze powder deposits on components to be brazed. On the other hand the electric insulating coatings offers the perspective to apply dry braze powders by means of an electrostatic powder coating processes prior to brazing. A suitable thermoplastic, which decompose residue-free in a furnace brazing process, has been found and a simple and economic process for coating Ni-based braze metal particles with this plastic has been developed. This new approach of braze powder application offers substantial technical, economic and ecological advantages compared to solvent based brazing pastes or suspensions.
