Cold spraying is an additive manufacturing method that has great potential for scientific research and industrial applications due to the unique physical properties of its produced coatings. In order to improve the accuracy and coating performance of such process, a more precise understanding of the parameters involved in spraying is required. One solution consists of implementing non-invasive devices on the process. In this paper, SprayCam was used to record what is happening in the space between the substrate and nozzle. With the help of image processing techniques, an effective algorithm has been developed to evaluate the qualitative analysis of phenomena. That algorithm transforms data from approximate human observation into the realm of numerical analysis. This algorithm enables us to obtain results such as trends in the growth of the coating over time, the position and shape of the bow shock waves and the distribution of in-flight particles taking into account the sizes and the frequencies of their appearance in space. Finally, the combination of the non-invasive observation devices and image processing techniques shows the possibility to get automatically measures of a spray process.
