The global additive manufacturing market is growing steadily. One of the most common technology is the powder-bed based laser beam melting. In this process, the powder quality has a major influence on the quality of the manufactured parts. Currently, a large amount of commercially available metal powder is produced by inert gas atomization. In this poster, an atomization system that produces economically small amount of high-quality metal powders by means of wire arc spraying is presented. It essentially consists of an atomizing device (arc spraying machine and torch), an atomizing tower, pipelines, a cyclone with a collecting container and a filter tower. The technical structure and functionality of the system are described. Furthermore, the analyzes of powders that were produced with different process parameters are shown. Influences such as current intensity, current modulation, arc voltage and flow rate of the atomizing gas are highlighted.
