 Abstract:
In electron beam welding, there usually are challenges when transferring a job from one to another facility. Although the same parameters are kept, the resulting welds generally differ and require additional work to re-achieve similar results on the second piece of equipment. Only recently it was realised that the caustics and quality of the electron beam has to be considered as key process parameter. For these reason beam diagnostics equipment gain in popularity and enable the understanding of the beam characteristics. Nuclear AMRC conducted a study of its two electron beam welding facilities and compared the characteristics of both machines in beam characteristics as well as welding performance.
