 Abstract:
The offshore wind power plant construction plays a key role in the fulfilment of energy policy objectives of the Federal Government for the economically and ecologically improved utilization of the energy consumption until 2050. The material and processing spectrum in wind power plant construction (WPC) shall be extended in order to optimize time and cost volume. So far, conservative material selection, i.e. established conventional structural steels with moderate strength values, was employed. This means that, with the mentioned materials, currently plates with large thickness are applied in order to ensure sufficient load-bearing strength. Moreover, given the current state of the art, only submerged arc welding ensures adherence to the toughness requirements. It is, however, due to the large seam volume and the resulting number of weld passes and the distortion problems to be viewed as unfavourable.
The use of the electron beam (EB) as a joining tool entails numerous benefits. EB-welded seams do, however, currently not adhere the required toughness properties in EB welding. For this reason, a process-technical approach to increase the toughness in the EB weld seam is pursued which shall allow for the application of this method without compromising safety. A defined temperature control for the optimization of the structural setting in high-strength steels for the load-bearing structure of offshore wind power plants is investigated.
